Getting Kids to Read Through Play The Barefoot Books Way

One way to make reading fun is to add an element of play to it. No one does this better than Barefoot Books and their new Barefoot puppets. Two great examples are:

These puppets work well with The Barefoot Book of Pirates and the Barefoot Book of Princesses. Here’s how it works. All kids love to play. Now you can add playing and having fun with reading. Have your kids bring their puppet to reading time. They can even act out the stories with their puppets. You can read to them while they play along. You will be amazed when reading time is done and they are still playing along to the stories in their heads. Watch them a day or two later when they are still playing with the puppet and reenacting the stories from the book. If your kids are like mine, the will grab the puppet and the book and ask you to read to them. That hadn’t happened a lot for us until the Barefoot Books came along. It really was kind of cool.

Another great idea is for when they get old enough to read the stories themselves. You can have them read the stories to their puppets. Kids love putting on shows and reading a princess story to a princess is the best! Putting on a pirate class is great. Have the kids bring in their pirate puppet and “teach” them the Barefoot Books Way from the Barefoot Book of Pirates. Two great ideas to get your kids reading and playing. This way they support each other. Please visit my Barefoot Books site now to find these great books, toys, and other great ideas  on how to get your kids to read.

Barefoot Books Reading Suggestion: The Barefoot Book of Pirates

Ask any boy what they want to be when they grow up and you will get some fun answers. Yesterday mine said he wanted to be a ninja. Not sure the job market for ninjas but I’m hoping his plans change over the next decade! If it isn’t ninjas boys want to be firefighters, policeman, or everyone’s favorite profession…pirates! Just think of the fun and adventure of sailing around the world looking for treasure and digging in the dirt all the time. Why wouldn’t a boy want to be a pirate! The only problem with pirates is that there aren’t a lot of solid pirate role models. (Jack Sparrow isn’t what I’m hoping my boys achieve to in their lives!). That is until now.

With the Barefoot Book of Pirates, now you have something you can share with your boys about the type of pirate they should be when they grow up. Read these 7 amazing stories of pirates around the world with your kids or pop in the CD that comes with both the Hardcover and Paperback versions and let them enjoy the book while you get a few things done. This is a way better option than having them watch a pirate show on TV! The seven tales in this amazing book are described as, “From mysterious and spooky to friendly and funny, the tales emphasize the qualities of bravery, imagination and compassion.” These are all qualities in the Barefoot Book that I want in my son, and qualities you won’t find in any other series of pirate adventures. Here is what one reader said about this Barefoot Book:

“I work at a day camp and put the CD on one day. An amazing thing happened, all 42 students gathered around the CD player and were silent. 5 weeks into camp and we have listened to the stories over and over again, the kids (boys and girls ranging from 6-11) love the CD. In fact, the prefer it over listening to more popular books on tape. I have purchased 4 other story/CD’s and the kids are anxiously awaiting the arrival of them.”

Now, pirates can be adventures and also teach important life lessons! Visit my Barefoot Books site today and let the adventures begin, just be ready for your boys to run out and start digging for buried treasure!

Brooke Barefoot Books Reading Suggestion: The Barefoot Book of Princesses

From the day she was born it was just one of the names we started calling her. She likes the name and I think it helps show her that she can be whatever she wants to be. It is kind of an empowering name that speaks to her potential and to who she really is, even before I was blessed to know her. Most girls dream of being a real one, and in my eyes she always will be…my little Princess.

One of Barefoot Books most popular books help teach what it really means to be a Princess, and not the Disney fairy tale kind! The Barefoot Book of Princesses includes 7 stories of strong and special princesses that teach real life lessons for the princesses of today. It is easy to see just by looking at this book why it is such a popular Barefoot Book and here are a few comments that readers have made about this great book.

“I bought this book for my 5 year old. She absolutely loves it. Every time I read it to her, I catch her 8 year old sister listening in and glancing at the pages also. As a bonus, on nights when story time could go on forever, my daughters love to fall asleep listening to the CD.”

“Children of all ages will delight in these bedtime stories with colorful illustrations. The book also comes with a story CD to follow along to.”

That is right, I forgot the best part of this Barefoot Book. In both the hardcover and paperback versions you get the Barefoot Books CD.
